Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering
apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew
I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she
wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about
my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make
a difference in someone's life. She got down on her knees and made
little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head
up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I
instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I
would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do
everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her
eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many
more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to
be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

Credit cards can be accepted by phone - just call the clinic at 705-728-4545 and ask to make a donation to the "Precious Paws Rescue account". Cheques made out to the Barrie Veterinary Hospital can also be mailed to the clinic at 200 Bayfield St, Barrie, ON. Who We Are
Precious Paws Rescue is a non-profit rescue dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets. We are located in Barrie, Ontario, but rescue dogs from high-kill shelters everywhere. Our dogs are not usually in the best of shape when they arrive. We have them groomed, fully vetted (including spayed or neutered) and then we adopt them out into properly screened forever homes.
We DO NOT take owner surrenders as we believe that owners need to be responsible for the animals they take into their lives. Society needs to start being LESS accepting of the "throw-away" view people have about pets. Precious Paws Rescue supports responsible ownership and we will work with owners, by giving advice and assisting in whatever way we can, in order for you to keep your pet. But we will not make it easy for people to "get rid of an inconvenience" as we do not view animals in that way and you shouldn't either.
We do not receive funding of any kind so donations are always greatly appreciated. Without donations from the generous public we would not be able to do the work that we do.
Adopting a friend
Adopting a dog is a lifetime commitment and we need to make sure that all of our adopters realize just what they are committing to. Please understand that we recieve phone calls everyday from people who are no longer able to care for their pet or just no longer want to. Our screening process helps to ensure that the dogs we adopt out stay in their homes happy and healthy - for the rest of their lives.
If you are interested in adopting you will be required to fill out an adoption application. In order to complete your application we do require a mandatory home visit prior to your application being approved.
We do not SELL dogs. We do require an adoption fee for each and every dog that we adopt out in order to try to cover some of the costs that we incur for the dogs that we rescue. In rescue we never break even but adoption fees are in place so that we can continue the life-saving work that we do.
Come Visit Us!
We do not have an actual shelter facility. All of our animals are kept in loving foster homes until they are adopted. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals please contact us and we will make arrangements for a meeting at a time that is convenient for you! We look forward to hearing from you!
